Here’s my review of the ClickFunnels’ 30 Day Challenge “One Funnel Away …” (OFA)

Is it worth investing your time and money into then next One Funnel Away Challenge in 2019? News about “the challenge” has reached everywhere. I have personally gone through the One Funnel Away Challenge as Beta-User the first time it was launched. Previously it was named 30 Days Virtual Summit and it began on 15th October, 2018.

Russell Brunson published a book – 

”30 Days – What if you suddenly had no money, no job… what steps would you take to get back on your feet?” 

What steps would they take if they lost everything and only had your knowledge, a computer and internet access? The book reveals the world’s top 30 experts’ action plans on what steps they would take, right from day 1 to day 30, if they lost everything. These 30 experts have won the 2 Comma Club Award = they have made at least a million dollars in just one sale funnel in their business. 

This is great, isn’t it? What actually got me even more interested was the potential of learning how to generate my personal sale funnel to sell my own products (physical or digital products) in the future.

I signed up at once! And so did thousands of entrepreneurs. I hoped I would learn how to actually set up a funnel to promote my own products (to a price I could afford) – something I wanted to learn for years. I took many courses by other people for my online business but I didn’t quite get what steps I should follow to have a website that helps me sell my products online. No matter what I did, it felt like I was missing a piece and I was never able to figure it out myself. Oh the overwhelm I felt! It seemed as if I was given the chance to learn and then left on the way with lots of question marks in my mind.

I was excited to add a reminder to my calendar of the challenge day. A couple of days later I received my book.

The Pre-Challenge Training:

One week before the challenge began, 7 days were devoted to preparing our MINDSET for success. I was really anticipating Steven’s live calls…and I was so eager to listen to his daily lecture of the OFA Challenge! The teaching, coaching and motivation Steven delivered has been very inspiring. During the whole challenge, I’m proud to say that I have only missed one live call (due to family issue) but we received the re-play links so it was no problem to catch up at a later point.

The Training:

  • Pre-Challenge Week – Get to know what you are afraid of, Mindset and self-confidence, Belief in yourself.
  • Week 1: Focusing on product offers – how to create pages in a funnel. “Funnel Hacking”, reviewing, taking notes, model. How to generate products QUICKLY: Public Domains, PLR. Have knowledge on “Hook, Story, Offer,” and offer sequencing.
  • Week 2: Importance of publishing, design/images for your products and resources, the “Epiphany Bridge”, developing your personal, authentic “Origin Story”, generate “Hooks” from the origin of your story.
  • Week 3:  Core funnel strategy,  setting up your ClickFunnels share funnel, setting up the squeez page, setting up the offer page.
  • Week 4: Traffic and promotion

We received homework daily. We received worksheets and notes as well, so we would write down what we have learned in the training every day. The emphasis is on LEARNING before taking ACTION – a philosophy I feel helps you to UNDERSTAND the process and in effect will raise the results you’re able to achieve. To be honest, for me it was a gradual training process. I came into the challenge without a product (I had a few options in mind but I was not yet set 100%). Week 1 was really helpful in that regard, but so was week 2. We learned how to set-up an irresistible offer, and then learned to understand how a sales funnel would help to automate the sales process. This knowledge alone helped me determine what product I want to sell.

In week 3, we received a high converting three-step-funnel template and Russell explained the psychology and sales techniques. Gold nuggets! Full Disclaimer: In order to be able use the funnel, you have to sign up to Clickfunnels. There is a 14 days free trial so you will have enough time to complete the challenge in your free trial period. That’s what I did and I encourage you to do same, just in case you’ll need more time after the challenge is over.

High-Converting 3-Step-Funnel Template

A big takeaway for me was that you have to generate a story for a product/service that will be a solution to a problem people have. You can do so by telling your authetic story that gives hope and a goal of success. The book “30 Days,” assists a lot in this! People share insights about their niches, products or offers, and what resources they used. It is all in the book and you will get a lot of ideas that you can model for yourself. The interesting part is that many of the action steps overlap. People who are successful do a lot of the same things over and over!

Now you might be thinking……..

What if I don’t have my own product to sell?

“It’s not about the product.”

Well, note that the program‘s training is not just meant for people that posses their personal products, or offer a service. As I said above, I was not set on a product yet. Even if you don’t have your own product, the challenge is also designed in way that you can sell someone else product (for example as an affiliate) by creating your own sales funnel. In the training you learn that it is never about the product, but rather about the story. You learn how to create an irresistible offer (this was actually my favorite part – an eye-opener!) and how to drive traffic that converts to basically all kind of products.

Who are the coaches?

In One Funnel Away Challenge Training there were 3 coaches. Russell, Stephen, and Julie each covered differents facets of the training which completely compliment each other. In a nutshell, Russell told the WHAT, Julie digged into the HOW, and Stephen “kicked our butts” and made us WANT to do the work.

First coach was Russell Brunson who is 8 figure marketer and co-founder of ClickFunnels and author of two USA Best Selling Books (DotComSecrets and Expert Secrets). 

Second coach was Julie Stoian. She has also built a six figure freelance business and a million dollar brand business and now she helps in lecturing people on the methods of utilizing sales funnels and digital marketing. 

Steve Larsen was the third coach, he brought in a lot of energy and I really loved his live coaching calls (don’t miss those!). He is also a 7 Figure Entreprener and Sales Funnel Builder and founder of Sales Funnel Broker. Further he has given away 1,000,000 sales funnels to help companies handle the “techie” side of their businesses so they can focus on what they’re good at. Stephens vids and live calls were beyond helpful and encouraging. 

Is the Challenge doable?

“A confused mind never buys.”

As entrepreneur, I frequently get overwhelmed with the things I don’t know how to do. Before I started the One Funnel Away Challenge, I was floating around in a state of overwhelm and lack of clarity as to what I wanted to sell and what funnel I should use. I admit, there is a learning curve involved and you will have to put work in – it’s not an easy challenge, but it is doable, and quite rewarding. 

  1. Clear actionable items every day. 
  2. No time to overthink or get stuck in overwhelm. 
  3. Russell sets the stage with amazing content, and Stephen breaks down every single task. You are able to understand the lessons and be able to take action. Julie helps with the technical aspects, on how to set up your funnel without getting stuck. 

Here’s what I really think about this challenge.

I’m very happy that I didn’t miss this opportunity! Yeah, I know you just rolled your eyes right now… I’m sounding like any other marketer in love with a product and exaggerating it. But it really is that good. Russell, Stephen and Julie are delivering great, engaging content. They are extremely helpful and have a way of simplifying difficult steps and concepts. I have never seen so much value given out (I know, that’s what all the reviews say, but it’s true). I really feel like the coaches genuinely cared about us entrepreneurs who are starting small. This training is definitely worth ten times the amount we paid.

I know more about funnels than I ever did. The challenge was not just on creating funnels but the requirements in designing one for the potential clients, psychology involved in sales, and our role in building a system that is clear and helpful for future customers. The 30 days went by so quickly I can’t believe it. I went into this challenge without a product, service or an offer. While I’m still in the process of developing a product I was able to become clear on how I should develop the product to be able to position it much more effectively. I learned how to create an irresistible offer around my product that will help me to attract the right leads and customers. I’m certain that I have gotten the necessary information needed to start-up off the ground.

Funnel has the literal meaning of the word and describes the process of making people interested in you, and to then transform these people more and more into fans until they trust you enough to buy your product. Obviously, you won’t convince every single one of your fans to actually purchase something, which explains the reason why this process is being compared to and looks like a funnel. 

Sales-Funnel is a cleverly automated marketing tool, which will help you get interested people to follow you and to turn them into customers.

Funnels are – besides your perfect Facebook fan page, your website or your blog – an essential element of content marketing to turn potentially interested readers into buying customers.

What is the problem?

Websites weren’t invented to sell products. Websites were developed to introduce a company and the idea was to present it like for example a brochure would. So, if a sales person in your company hands out limitless brochures or flyers to potential customers in the hope that they will maybe buy something, you would be mad, or not? Well, this is exactly what is happening with your company. You might as well burn the money you are spending on marketing and advertisement. After all, this is pretty much what is happening when you send website visitors to your company website. So, if you want to sell a product or a service to make money, you will need to implement a Sales-Funnel.

This Funnel is literally the secret of the most successful online businesses. A Funnel is a series of steps, which potential clients will go through, and which will turn them into paying customers.

Funnels happen every day around you, even though you may not have noticed it.

How does a Funnel work?

Although every Funnel is individually different, most function according to the same principle:

Did you know that McDonalds pays $1.91 to get a client to use their Drive-Through? So, if they sell you a Burger for $2.09, they only make a profit of $0.18. However, if they also sell you a drink and fries, they are making an additional $1.77, which increases the profit to $1.32. This is 8x more than the original profit from the first sale. That’s quite impressive, or not? This is happening constantly around us, and yet, most entrepreneurs will create their website still like a brochure and try to sell their products or services this way. More often than not, they won’t be able to afford the hosting costs, once they spent all their money on marketing and advertising.

The solution?

If you want to sell products or services online, then you need much more than just a traditional website, and you will have to implement – much like McDonalds does – a Funnel. Instead of a McDonalds Drive-Through, your visitors will come in via a landing page, where you can collect their contact information, which enables you to contact them via their email addresses in the future. Whilst they are visiting your website, you will then be able to sell them other products and services – which is called upsell. This is pretty much how a Funnel works.

Interested people are attracted to content, which offers solutions to problems or answers on questions they may have. This content can be offered in various formats, like for example on a Facebook page, as blog entry or in Podcasts. The choice of the format should depend on the preferences of the target group: For example, if they are predominantly travel in the car for work, then they would have the time to listen to Podcasts during their travels.

To be able to send your readers personalized messages, additional content is offered together with the initial download – in exchange for their email address. Since you attract leads this way, the term used for these contents is lead-magnets. These often come in the form of e-books, manuals, checklists or case studies.

Therefore, the start of a Sales Funnel is to “warm up” the interested people. The terms “cold traffic/lead” or “hot traffic/lead” are often mentioned in this context. A cold lead would be someone, who does not know you yet, and who consequently would be relatively skeptical towards you. These people are obviously harder to convince. In the marketing world, experts often say that up to 7 contacts are needed, which explains the reason why it is so important to literally funnel as many interested people into your Sales-Funnel. Contact opportunities can happen on several different platforms or just one platform, which makes an email sequence a very effective tool, since it enables multiple direct recordings of these leads. A warm/hot lead has already had contact with you and is much easier to convince. People will predominantly buy from people they like. Keyword: Added Value.

The more quality you offer your readers, the faster they will turn into fans. People will only buy your book or product, if they have the feeling that they get a high-quality product for their money.

Once the reader is entered into your email-distribution, they will be able to receive your particular content via email. For this, automated email-series / email-sequence are being used. This way you can build up confidence and trust with your new contacts, where the reader expects helpful, suspenseful and useful information in every email. After a while, you will be able to offer your readers your offers for purchase. This will enable you also to gauge their real interest, and whether it is only in cost-free content or if these people are actually interested in becoming potential clients. You will lose a lot of people during this part of the process, if they are not interested in spending any money on your product. This is an important part of the Sales-Funnel, because it separates those, who basically just clog the space for free stuff, from those, who are truly relevant contacts.

The fact that email is one of the oldest digital marketing tools yet still loved by many simply means that you cannot overlook it. 

Since the advent of the internet, many tools have come and gone but email still endures. As a digital marketing tool, it remains one of the most reliable lead converters. It may have ceded its top position to social media marketing, but still ranks among the top 5 digital marketing tools. 

The versatility of the email means that you can easily customize it to drop deep into the hearts of potential leads and charm them. Of course, the traditional plain text email messages can’t charm that much. What charms most potential leads is the combination of great copywriting skills with multimedia aesthetics to deliver a package that is consumable right within the inbox. Convenience is the key. Why can a person not open an email? Well, putting non-discriminatory factors aside (that is, those factors that don’t affect just a particular sender), what will make an email not be opened is simply the subject title.

If the subject title is not such attractive, not unique, and not a one that raises curiosity… then no one on a busy schedule would bother opening it. 

A subject title is not so different from that one on a tender envelope. If the envelope is not opened, then, the message is simply not read, even though the subject title gives a clue to the nature of the message. 

In normal ads, we do have the impression rate (CPI), Click-through rate (CTR), and Conversion Rate (CR). All of these are important. When it comes to an email, reading the subject title without clicking it to open the message is equivalent to having an impression of it. While an impression is important in website ads, it is not such important to an email since the subject title is very short and may not carry such a powerful impression as an Ad. 

An open rate is the equivalent of CTR in a normal website Ad. This is the only assurance that someone has accessed the message. It may not be a guarantee that someone has read it, but, it is a step ahead with greater potential. 

It is the open rate that distinguishes a potential lead from an ordinary email holder. One only becomes a potential lead after clicking on the subject title to get exposed to the message. The email message is equivalent to the landing page on a website. And just like a landing page, reading the email message may not guarantee an automatic or immediate purchase. A buy decision, if ever made, may take some time.

As you can see, it is an open rate that ushers in the opportunity for a reader to access the sales funnel. Without this opportunity, then, the chances of making a sale via email equate to nil. Such important!

The 4 Powerful Steps to Widen Your Emails’ Open Rate 

We’ve seen the importance of Open Rate in an email campaign. The higher the open rate the greater are the chances of a higher conversion rate. Thus, to increase the opportunity of making more sales, or achieving your target, then, it goes without saying that you must widen the opportunity for higher open rates. 

The following are the 4 most powerful steps you can take to widen your email’s open rate:

1. Craft a Compellingly Personalized Subject Title

An active email address receives several dozens of unsolicited emails a day. This can be overwhelming. Hence, it is common for one to quickly glance over the subject title to decide which mail to click on and which one to ignore.

With plenty of spam mails entering the inbox, it means more work done by the eyes and thus a more acute need to focus only on interesting subject titles. 

Thus, to attract interest to the already worn-out eyesight, it is important to craft a compelling subject title. The subject title should be such attractive to draw attention and too compelling to be ignored. This is where copywriting skills must be heavily invested. 

Luckily, we do have Funnel Scripts! Funnel Scripts is an awesome tool that enables you to create different samples of the subject title so that you can split test them to find the best.

To make sure that your potential lead heeds your call, personalize your subject title. Personalization increases the reader’s responsibility to take action. One of the best ways to personalize the title is to include your customer’s name. Of course, calling out “Hello” on a busy street will attract less of the desired attention than calling out “Hello, Paul!” Paul will feel personally responsible to respond to “Hello, Paul!” than just “Hello”. More likely, Paul will ignore a call that is not associated with his name. The same is the case with the subject title.

2. Find out the Most Impactful Delivery Time

One characteristic that defines humans is that they have certain common habits. The fact that we almost naturally sleep at the same time and almost naturally wake up at the same time tells a lot. Furthermore, the fact that a normal work schedule begins, breaks, and ends nearly at the same time adds more certainty to human habits. While not all humans obey this habit, a significant majority does.

And while there is no one-size-fits-all when it comes delivery timing, the rule of thumb when it comes to optimization is that you schedule your email delivery time to match that time that it will be exposed to the greatest number of people.  

A recent study carried out by CoSchedule indicates that the most optimal weekdays to send emails are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Tuesday ranks highest among the three weekdays.  

Yet, according to the same study, the best times to deliver the email on these weekdays are:

  • 6 a.m. – this is the most popular early morning time since most people check their emails immediately before or while taking breakfast. 
  • 10 a.m. – this is the most popular midmorning time since most people are having a short mid-morning break (tea break) from work or study. As such, they can easily pop into their email boxes to get updated with the latest communication before returning to work/study desks. 
  • 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. – for the very same reason as 10 a.m. except that lunch break is much longer than tea break.
  • 8 p.m. – midnight – this is the most popular evening time because people have plenty of time to relax before retiring to bed. They can use this time to have a detailed examination of the inbox. 

On the overall, 8 pm-midnight is considered the most ideal time to send emails.

3. Create a Lean and Fit Email-List

Just as weeding a garden makes healthy plants, you need to weed out unwanted contacts on your email list. Carry out a thorough audit to get rid of perpetually unresponsive contacts. These include:

  • Those who do not bother to respond
  • Those that frequently bounce back your emails
  • Those who persistently refuse to open your emails 

These are weeds and deadwood that starve your desired contacts off deserved attention. Being fat doesn’t necessarily mean being healthy. Same wise, an obese list doesn’t necessarily mean better campaign returns. 

To make your list not only lean but also fit, you need to segment it. Just as you segment your fitness workout into aerobic, anaerobic, muscle-gain, weight loss, mobility, relaxation, etc, and just as you target specific parts of the body such as cardio, abs, back, shoulders, neck, chest, arms, legs, etc, you need to segment your email list for a targeted campaign that is specific to a target group, e.g. doctors, lawyers, retailers, etc.

Funnel Copy Tip #1: Make the Keywords Holy (and not only search-engine-friendly)

Nothing new! Keywords are the probes used by search engines to find specific content on the web as requested by internet users. Google, Bing, Yahoo, Baidu, and such other engines rely heavily on keywords to serve content to internet users. 

The first landing of a search engine is the headline. For your headline to be captured by a search engine, its keywords must match the search engine’s query. Only then can your page be ranked on the Search Engine Results Page (SERP).

Search Engines incorporate commonly used keywords by internet users to search for content. Thus, you have to find out which keywords internet users are more likely to put in their search query. When you know this, and incorporate into your headline, it then becomes search-engine-friendly. 

Yet, you have to incorporate the keywords in such a manner that is not only search-engine-friendly but also friendly to the readers. That which is friendly to the search engine may not be necessarily friendly to the readers, and vice versa. You’ve got to strike a balance. Yet, again, most search engines have employed algorithmic metrics that increase the ranking of a page on SERP based on positive user experience. Funnel Copy Tip #2: KISS it UP!

Keep It Succinctly Simple.

This is the next holiest thing in copywriting. 

Don’t overload your readers. Let the head be smaller than the body. Let it hint without revealing that much. Let it kiss the readers’ appetite. And make them drool over for more. 🙂

Yes, the secret to being a bore is to tell everything. Let your headline not be a bore. 

Suspense is the rule of the game. Let readers’ anxiety drift to the brim. 

Cut out the crap and just leave that which is succulent to be availed to the readers… yet, so sweet but not enough for them to end there… it is important that they not only read through to the end, but also keep coming back. 

Funnel Copy Tip #3: Effectively Delegate Your Heading

Your headline is the LEADER OF YOUR CONTENT. A poor leader is a one who is too envious not to delegate. 

Let your headline lead to subheadings… and the subheadings lead to more sub-sub-headings. 

Let the readers see a clear chain of command to follow in your funnel. 

Let the ladder descend them step-by-step to the depth of your content. 

Readers, just like miners, don’t want to risk breaking their skeletons in a one-off fall…. No matter how rich the mine may appear to be. Let them descend effortlessly to the rich mine of your funnel. 

This way, they will treasure every moment of their descent… and they will appreciate every gem that they fetch. 

Funnel Copy Tip #4: Make It Outstandingly Speak in Bold Letters

The brave ones stand in bold. With millions of articles on the web, it takes a bold one to stand out. 

Readers on the internet scan content, the brain skims text, visitors of your funnel usually don’t read word for word. Help them to grasp the information in your funnel more quickly. If they like what they grasp within a few seconds, namely the parts you made stand out in bold, they will take time to read the rest.  

A bold headline speaks of confidence. It stands by what it contains. And it is ready to welcome any challenge. 

Combined with the first three tips, this boldness won’t be vacuous. It will be a one ready to lead an army of readers into the conquest of knowledge and information. 

Remember, you are serving knowledge. Feebleness can’t conquer the stubborn ignorance.
